Glenfiddich Distillery is marking its 125th Anniversary year with the continuation of its support for the Grampian Highland Games Series.

The company has pledged a five-figure sponsorship sum to the twelve Grampian Games that take place across the North-east throughout the summer month, which includes the Aboyne and Ballater Games and the Lonach and Braemar Gatherings.

The sponsorship funding enables prize money to be offered to the Heavy Athletes, helping to ensure some of the country’s leading competitors attend to showcase their skills for their crowds. Jim Brown, Chairman of the Grampian Games Association said: “Glenfiddich’s sponsorship support has never been more important. Many of the Heavy Athletes travel long distances to attend Highland Games and the costs involved in doing this are growing. Through Glenfiddich’s generosity we can provide prize money at every Games, a great incentive for the Heavy Athletes. Plus Glenfiddich’s sponsorship includes a prize of £3000 to the Heavy who has achieved the most points across all 12 Games and £900 to the leading young heavy (aged between 18-25).”

Elizabeth Lafferty, PR manager for Glenfiddich in Scotland said “Whilst Glenfiddich’s history in no way rivals that of Highland Games we are proud to be celebrating our 125th anniversary this year. The dedication and pioneering spirit of the Heavy Athletes that compete at Highland Games is really inspirational and we are delighted to be able to continue to give the Games our backing.”
