A group supporting a community hospital in Banchory has appealed for volunteers.

Friends of Glen O’Dee has been running for nearly 30 years providing home comforts and equipment not supplied by the NHS.

The charity recently held its annual general meeting and many of the committee felt it was time to recruit new volunteers.

Agnes McKenzie, Friends’ treasurer for 20 years, told the Piper: “For the last 28 years the Friends have supported the hospital by providing home comforts and equipment not supplied by NHS, thanks to the generosity of local business, relatives, patients and friends.

“Many of the committee now feel it is time to take a step back having supported and committed themselves over the years to make the local hospital a place more like home and appreciated by all who have had to use this facility.

“We now need volunteers to help continue this work. If we cannot achieve this, the Friends may have to fold which would be very sad.”

Over the years the hospital has benefited greatly from the group’s fundraising activities in the Deeside area.

It is currently funding new curtains, the refurbishment of conservatories and replacement of lockers.

The Friends’ next meeting is on Tuesday, September 27, at 7pm in Glen O’Dee.

Agnes, who is a nurse at Glen O’Dee, is encouraging any would-be volunteers to come along to the meeting and find out more about the charity.

Anyone who would be willing to help support the group, or would like more information about it, can contact Agnes at acmck@btinternet.com or by calling 01330 823246.
