Aberdeenshire Council has received an Outstanding Commitment to Jazz Education Award from the National Music Council and UK Jazz Services, for the second year running.
To celebrate the occasion a special series of events called Jazz in June, which looks to give people the chance to enjoy a taste of jazz music, will be held in Aberdeenshire.
The Will Michael Diploma was awarded in recognition of the Aberdeenshire Jazz Programme, which is aimed at both primary and secondary school pupils and has now been running for four years.
The series will kick off with an open mic session on Tuesday, June 12, at 7pm in the Hopeville Social Club, Inverurie.
The following week several primary schools in Aberdeenshire will be visited by the Scottish Saxophone Ensemble, while the Aberdeenshire Jazz Programme will also be visiting schools throughout June.
On Thursday, July 12, the Aberdeenshire Saxophone Orchestra will be performing at the World Saxophone Congress, which is to be held in St Andrews this year.
