A Deeside Bistro reaches a fermenting milestone this week when it brews its 100th batch of beer.
Calum Buchanan began making beer in the Bistro kitchen over two years ago – since April 21, 2013 to be precise - and it has proved very popular with the customers.
Dubbed the Quiet Brewery the Bistro now offers six beers in their core range with another handful of small batch seasonal extras.
“Our beer journey began with a chance conversation and has grown into a key part of our business” says Calum Buchanan.
“We enjoy the tasting and experimenting with different hops and herbs.
“We don’t get it right every time and have learnt as much from our mistakes as our successes.
“We recently served a Simcoe and Rosemary brew to international tourism delegates, some of whom turned out to brewers from Belgium - They left with a case of beer as a gift.
“A specially created batch of Blonde Ale was also done for a good friend’s wedding last month.
“Even the Bistro allotment benefits from the beer as all the spent grains are composted on site and eventually dug into the soil.”
As the beer has to mature in bottle for one month the 100th brew will not be ready for drinking until Mid November when the Bistro plans a special beer tasting supper evening to celebrate.
Buchanan Food have been located at Woodend Barn since 2010 where they have operated the successful, award winning Bistro.
Throughout this time they have gained a reputation for producing a small, eclectic range of retail food items as well as their wholesome, organic salads, bakes and main meals.
