A Deeside War Memorial has undergone an upgrade and was ‘rededicated’ at a ceremony on Sunday (april 14).
Kincardine O’Neil British Legion Branch celebrated the rededication of the village war Memorial following a major upgrade of the memorial grounds. The hedge that previously bordered the memorial has now been replaced with a dry stone dyke.
The service of rededication, conducted by local ministers Rev Lisa Eunson and Rev Alec Wark, was well attended by Legion members, representatives of those involved in the work and the village community.
Kincardine O’Neil Legion Branch Chairman Ian Stewart said that the inspiration and driving force behind the improvements had been Bill Milne, immediate past Branch Secretary, and his late wife Moira.
He said: “A project like this requires help from many quarters to succeed and we would like to take this opportunity to record the Branch’s appreciation to all who freely provided advice, materials and their labour. For the public spiritedness of all these volunteers... we are greatly indebted.”
During the rededication service, Piper Sandy Shearer, a member of Turriff Legion Branch, played a new lament composed for the occasion, “Kincardine O’Neil War Memorial”.
