Pupils at Aboyne Primary are thrilled this week after being awarded the Eco Green Flag for the third time for sustainable development.

The whole school has been working hard over the last year on all things ‘eco’.

Aboyne Primary pupils have been working alongside Aboyne Academy’s School Eco-Committee and the local Community Council to try and reduce litter both within the school campus and throughout the local community in general.

A group of parent helpers was formed, known as the Eco-Warriors. They have been working very hard to assist the school in eco-related activities. They have also developed the Eco-Warrior Award, which is a monthly award given to the class which has contributed most to the eco side of the school.

The parent group has also developed an Eco-Community newsletter, which updates staff, parents, pupils and the local community about what is going on each term.

All at Aboyne Primary School are very proud to have achieved the Eco Green Flag award for the third time and would like to thank the staff, children and parents involved for their hard work.

Eco-Schools, which awards the flag, is an international initiative which encourages whole-school action on sustainable development education issues with over 98% of Scotland’s local authority schools taking part in the scheme.
