A chef at a Deeside hotel has cooked up a storm on national television getting to the quarter final of the prestigious competition.
Alex Hay bowed out of the UK’s premier cookery competition after reaching the quarter-finals in her first taste of starring on prime time TV.
But the 26-year-old Executive Chef at Raemoir House at Banchory said her appearances on the BBC programme MasterChef:The Professionals had served up “some of the most thrilling highlights of my life.”
Alex, from Fettercairn, reached the quarter final as one of the six best chefs in an earlier round but only two of them qualified for the semi-final. They had to prepare a dish for judges Michel Roux Junior and Monica Galetti from a range of ingredients including bone marrow, chicken thighs, kid goat, oysters and whelks, mangos, white chocolate and dates.
Alex, who won the Grampian Chef of the Year title in 2011, said: “Being filmed was nerve-wracking, especially as we were under such great time pressure to cook the dishes and didn’t know our tasks until we got into the studio. I had to think and plan on my feet. However, I’m always learning and this has helped take my work to an even higher level and I’m looking forward to demonstrating this to Raemoir guests.”
Neil Rae, who owns Raemoir with his wife Julie, said: “We are immensely proud of Alex who was picked from thousands of applicants to take part in the series.”
