A Donside specialist newborn baby photographer and business mum has marked the start of her third year in business with an Associate award from the Society of Wedding and Portrait photographers.
Donna Gray, who owns and runs Small Prints Photography in Lumsden, has six young children of her own, and they inspired her to re-train and offer posed newborn photography to parents in Aberdeenshire.
Donna has trained specifically in safety with regards to posing and is experienced in dealing with the needs and challenges of photographing newborn babies.
It shows in the numerous awards she has been earning for her images. Last year, she won a number of gold awards from the society, along with a Judges Choice award in their international competition.
An Associate award is given to photographers described by the SWPP as “impressive image makers and astute businessmen” and is held by the top 10% of practitioners.
Donna said: “I’m very proud to have been awarded the Associateship, it means a lot to me, all the hard work and training has paid off.
“I am delighted to be able to offer newborn photography in Aberdeenshire as it’s something I searched for myself and found no one dedicated solely in posed baby photography, similar to the work photographers do in the USA.
“I find working with newborns and their parents very rewarding.
“Expectant parents book their session in pregnancy and we arrange the exact time for their shoot when their babies are born. Sessions are relaxed and informal, with no time limit.
“It’s a lovely way to remember those first tiny days of a newborns life, a fleeting stage that often passes in a blur - 2013 is filling up quickly!
Donna’s plans for 2013 include a trip to London in July to further her development with the Baby as Art team from the USA - Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall - the children’s photographers who “revolutionised and reinvented modern baby photography”.
