Banchory pupils pay a visit to local stroke support group
Members of a Banchory stroke support group got into the Christmas spirit with a visit from local school children.
Pupils from Banchory Primary School sang at the meeting of the social communication support service at the Dalvenie Centre, which is run by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland
CHSS local coordinator Susan Massie said: “Our members really enjoyed the visit from the children. It was lovely for the children to meet some of the people who attend our group which supports individuals who have had a stroke, helping them with communication difficulties and offering support and social activities.
“Our service depends entirely on the help of local volunteers and we urgently need people who could give some time to help at the group.
“Volunteers chat over a cup of tea with group members and help them overcome their conversation difficulties so that they can participate fully in group activities. All that’s needed is a willingness to help others as full training is provided and expenses reimbursed.
“Volunteering gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and use existing ones, meet interesting people and work as part of a team. You can put something back into your community and make a real difference in someone’s life. Perhaps most importantly, you can enjoy yourself! Our volunteer programme holds the prestigious ‘Investors in Volunteers’ status so you can be sure of a rewarding experience.”
