A former Aboyne Academy pupil has said he is “honoured” and “surprised” at being awarded a prestigious scholarship in Germany.

Daniel Robertson from Aboyne is currently studying for a MEng agricultural engineering degree at Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

Last week, the 19-year-old was awarded a scholarship from CLAAS - an agricultural machinery manufacturer founded by August Claas that is this year celebrating its centenary.

PARTNERSHIP

CLAAS works in partnership with Harper Adams - the UK’s leading specialist provider of higher education for the agri-food chain and rural sector and selects a student during the first quarter of their second year. The recipient of the award is required to take their work placement with CLAAS, as well as being awarded £3000 in their second and subsequent years.

The Aboyne teenager said: “It was an honour to be selected for the scholarship. I am good friends with some of the other interviewees, so knew that they were great candidates and it was going to be really competitive.

SURPRISE

“That is why it was such a surprise when I was chosen. I cannot wait to start work in Germany in October.”

Daniel was chosen in December but officially received the scholarship at the annual Harper Adams University Development Trust Scholarship Presentation.
