A Deeside singer is set to perform in the regional finals of a national competition this weekend.

Lumphanan’s Bethany Tennant impressed a panel of judges at an audition in September for the Open Mic UK contest.

Bethany, a film and video student at the University of Wales, will appear at the regional finals of the competition at Glasgow Concert Hall on Saturday (October 13).

The talented songwriter performed one of her own songs ‘Stay With Me’ at the auditions and she has been writing her own material for the last couple of years.

Bethany said she was nervous performing but it was “exciting” to let professionals hear her voice. The 18-year-old says it’s her dream to become a professional singer and sell her music.

Open Mic UK 2012 is a national talent competition which searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material.

The latter stages of the competition will provide acts with the opportunity to impress many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.

Auditionees have the chance to win prizes including recording studio time and music development classes, with the overall winner receiving £5,000.

Bethany will be hoping to wow the judges on Saturday and seal a place in the National Grand Final which takes place in the O2 arena in London on January 1 next year.
