End of an era for Bancon as Burnett ‘winds down’ role

A new man is to take the helm of one of Deeside’s best- known companies as the current head is “winding down” after 40 years.

James Burnett of Leys, Chairman of the Bancon Group has announced that after 40 years he intends to wind down his day-to-day involvement in the Group and Bob

Hutcheson who joined the Board as a non- executive Director in January 2012 will replace him as Chairman.

Mr Hutcheson is well known in Aberdeen business circles having been a partner with KPMG Accountants for 27 years before stepping down as senior partner six years ago to take up a number of non-executive roles including Aberdeen Global (Luxembourg), Imes Group and Water Weights Group.

He has also been working closely with the Burnett family over the last two years.

The Bancon Group of Companies are engaged in General Building Contracting, Design and Build, Housing and Property Developments, Timber Frame Design and Manufacture and Specialist Works and Property Maintenance.

The Bancon group will celebrate its 40th year in 2015.

With over 320 employees, the consolidated group turnover in 2013 was £74 million- an increase of 34% from the previous year.

The Group has over 4,000 acres in strategically significant locations both in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.
