Exciting plans for highland games centre in Braemar

Ambitious plans are under way to establish a highland games centre in Braemar.

Braemar Royal Highland Society is working with the Glamis Consultancy to explore the interpretative concept and best position for the building.

On Monday (January 28), local people are invited to add their thoughts at a community consultation in Braemar Village Hall.

William Meston, secretary of the Highland Society, said: “The Braemar Games has been a vital ingredient in the economic viability of the village for generations, but it’s all over in just one day.

“We want to build and extend what we can offer visitors.

‘‘Braemar is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park and the aim is to complement the attractions we already have here.

“We want this centre to tell the story of the games and give a hands-on insight into the skill, strength and athleticism on show at the hundreds of Highland Gatherings held around Scotland each summer.

ICONIC

“These iconic events attract thousands of people from every corner of the globe to Scotland.

“We want to make it possible for all visitors to have the Highland Games experience, no matter what time of year they come.”

This Monday’s meeting will be the first in a series of consultation events and will run between 11am and 4pm.
