Land strategy plan discussed at meeting

Aberdeenshire councillors were presented with draft plans for a four-year development strategy at a meeting last week.

Members of the infrastructure services committee agreed to to publish the 2013 Development Plan Scheme at Woodhill House, Aberdeen.

The latest version of the the plan will set the framework for land developments across Aberdeenshire between 2016 and 2021.

Planning bosses said they noted that the current Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan was only adopted last July, believing that it would have benefited from “six to nine months of extra scrutiny”.

The planned programme of activities included in the document features a period of formal engagement with community and stakeholder groups with reactions being used to compile a further ‘Main Issues Report’ in October of this year.

The resulting document will present what needs to change from the current plan.

It will also set out preferred options alongside reasonable alternatives.

SNP councillor Stephen Smith said it was important to keep updating the draft plans

He added: “While the new Local Development Plan was only put in place last year, it’s a rolling process which needs constantly updating.

“Therefore it is vital that communities feed in their priorities for what they want to see in the new local development plan.”

Martin Ford, Scottish Greens councillor for East Garioch, believed the council needed to “think carefully” about consulting more with groups who express their opposition to wind farms in the region.

The team behind the Development Plan Scheme will visit each of the six Aberdeenshire area committees to seek members’ views on the document over the next few months.
