A former Banchory Academy pupil is hoping to secure support from Deeside this weekend as his dance group aims to reach the final of a national television programme.

Eian Crockett will be performing in the semi-finals of Sky1’s Got to Dance as part of G-Nome, a five-member jazz contemporary dance act.

Eian, 26, left Banchory nine years ago to pursue a career in performing arts. He spent three years at the Performers College in Essex and has worked professionally ever since.

Eian’s parents, Campbell and Andrea, still live locally and he believes he owes a lot to the area for helping launch his dance career.

“I got in to dance quite late, when I was in my fifth year at school,” Eian said.

“I spent a lot of time at the Banchory Dance Centre and I’m really grateful for helping me get started.”

CONTEMPORARY

Got to Dance is a reality talent show dance competition which searches for dance acts of any age, style or size. The show is hosted by Davina McCall, with Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Aston Merrygold of JLS, as judges.

G-Nome have made it to the final 30 acts and will perform in the third semi-final this Sunday, where two of the six acts performing will reach the final to fight for the £250,000 first prize.

Eian said: “I think we are really different to other acts and show that boys can be really talented at contemporary dance.

“We were obviously really excited when we got through our audition. We’re quite nervous about Sunday, as there is no room for any mistakes on live television, but also confident in ourselves.”

The show will be on Sky1 at 6pm on Sunday evening, and you will be able to vote for Eian and G-Nome over the phone or online.
