Man dies after being hit by van

A man has died following a collision with a Volkswagen van on the B9077 road in Aberdeenshire.

The incident, which happened at around 7.20pm on Wednesday, led to a member of the public advising Grampian Police of the road traffic collision between the box type van and the pedestrian on the South Deeside Road at Wester Durris, near Banchory.

Several units from the police force, assisted by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel, attended the scene and the pedestrian, who was involved in the crash, was found to be deceased on arrival of the emergency services.

The vehicle involved and its driver were at the scene.

Road closures have been implemented and eastbound traffic is being diverted, via Drumoak, to the west of Aberdeen, and westbound traffic is being diverted at the A957 Slug Road.

All drivers approaching this location are asked to consider that these diversions are in place and, where possible, alter their route accordingly.
