Tarland Bee Group’s youngest member started off its season of winter talks.

Martin Leahy spoke about “Introduction to Beekeeping” at their meeting earlier this month.

He has been keeping bees for three years and gave a fascinating talk to an enthusiastic audience.

Martin, who recently passed his basic beemaster exam with distinction, said: “Beekeeping is fascinating with so much to learn and I love being in amongst my bees.

“I have been very lucky to be mentored by Yvonne Davidson, who has taught me so much already.”

Tarland Bee Group was established in 2014 to increase the number of beekeepers in the area and to give support and advice to new and existing ones.

The group provides mentoring, leases hives, holds winter talks, runs practical workshops and manages a community apiary. Honey and colonies of bees are sold to raise funds.

Annual membership costs £30 (£35 per family) and new members are welcome. Contact organiser Yvonne Davidson at tarlandbees@hotmail.co.uk
