A memorial bench dedicated to a community-minded man who died last year has been unveiled at Alford’s Haughton Park.
John Lewis died in August 2011 in Roxburghe House, with his family by his side.
He was described as a welcoming, quiet spoken, friendly and hardworking man who was held in high esteem.
He chaired Donside Community Council and Marr Area Partnership (MAP) and was a member of Community Planning.
In partnership with Marr Area Partnership and through discussions with the family, the community council decided a bench would be a fitting memorial in recognition of John’s services to the community.
Jean Henretty, chairwoman of MAP said: “I knew John when he was chairman of Banchory Community Council. He was an inspiration for getting things done by communities as he organised many activities in the Banchory and Alford areas. As a founder of the Marr Area Partnership he believed that partnership working was the way forward for communities that could support each other to develop. He will be a sad loss to the whole area.”
