Led by local pipers, and all sporting a flash of tartan, more than 200 people took to the tracks of Balmoral Estate recently, on the third annual Tartan Trek, to raise awareness of and support a North-east cancer support charity.

Walkers of all ages completed either a 6km or 15km walk through the grounds of Balmoral Castle and were rewarded by the Royal Lochnagar distillery with a dram of whisky.

Volunteer organisers from Deeside and Donside were delighted with the support the Trek received in aid of CLAN Cancer Support.

Amongst many of the young walkers, 10-year-old Callum Clark, of Alford, raised more than £170 on his own.

Susan Crighton, CLAN Cancer Support’s fundraising manager said: “I am extremely pleased to hear the Tartan Trek was such a success.

“The annual event continues to grow in popularity, as does the fantastic support we have within the Deeside area both from individuals and businesses.”

CLAN is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer.
