On the evening of the second Friday of every month Lumphanan village hall reverberates to the sound of childrens’ laughter during the, usually animated, film shown by Lumphanan Moving Pictures (LuMP).
The film shown in November was “The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!”.
“It gives the kids, and adults, a chance to socialise outside of school,” said one parent when asked why they went to the November children’s film showing.
A committee member told the Piper: “We try and screen films that have recently been released on DVD or Blue-Ray. The children’s film starts at 6.30 pm. Some months see a second film shown, which starts at 8.30pm. However, December sees a mini-film festival coming to the hall. There will be the usual showings, with two additional events organised by other groups in the village. They will be shown during the day on Friday and on Saturday evening.
All of the films are shown under a special licence from Filmbank that only allows advertising at the village hall, so the notice board at the hall should be checked to find out what is to be shown and their start times if a special event.”
Anyone with a suggestion for a film to be shown for the entire village to see, or for just one of the many groups in the village to attend, should see one of the LuMP committee members, or post a suggestion on the Lumphanan Moving Pictures Facebook page.
The equipment is available all weekend, so it can be used at any time on Saturday and Sunday, not just on a Friday evening.
