The fundraising efforts of one Donside group were given a boost as Aberdeenshire West and Kincardine MP Sir Robert Smith lent a hand.
Sir Robert came along to Howe Trinity church to look at the efforts for Christian Aid in the area.
Since 2001 churches in Donside have been cooperating to take part in the annual door to door collection.
In that first year, fifteen volunteers collected just under £1000. This year the total from the team of 60 collectors was £5740.48 with more envelopes to come in.
Sir Robert came along to see what was going on for Christian Aid Week, and stayed to help with the count.
He said: “At the count I was able to see first hand the generosity of the community of Alford and district. Their donations will helpmake a real difference to those facing the challenge of trying to feed themselves.”
Christian Aid Week was first held in 1957 and is Britain and Ireland’s longest-running fundraising week.
