Sir Robert Smith, MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, welcomed the news that GB Oils have agreed that the price of heating oil on delivery will be the same price as that quoted on order.
GB Oils and allied companies including Brogan Fuels and Scottish Fuels, were amongst the companies who were found to change the price of heating oil on delivery from the price quoted a few days earlier when the oil was being ordered. They were criticised for acting unfairly by the Office of Fair Trading and by MPs.
Sir Robert said: “I welcome that the Office for Fair Trading have acted to ensure that customers who rely on heating oil are treated fairly and are given an accurate price for the cost of the oil they are buying. Still more needs to be done to provide support for those customers who are not on the gas grid.”
Sir Robert is supporting a Bill that would bring forward the payment of the winter fuel allowance to those who are not on the mains gas-grid in order to allow them to buy fuel earlier in the year when it is cheaper.
