West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles has pledged to continue to back rural businesses as he visited a Donside hotel.

Mr Rumbles met with Paul MacLennan, proprietor of The Colquhonnie House Hotel in Strathdon.

Mike Rumbles said: “I was very pleased to have this opportunity to hear first hand from Paul McLennan the difficulties he faces on a day to day basis keeping his rural business going.

“The Colquhonnie House Hotel is a very well run establishment and an absolutely vital part of the community in Strathdon.

“Changes such as the SNP government’s decision to increase business rates last year without providing transitional relief may seem like a good idea when they are being thought up in a Ministerial office in Edinburgh, but they are having a very serious negative impact in rural areas.

“The information that Paul MacLennan has given me will be very useful as I continue to press for measures to help rural businesses at the Scottish Parliament.”

Mr MacLennan was also happy with how the meeting went.

He said: “It was very positive and Mr Rumbles has said he will look into the current business rates. We will continue to be in touch.”
