MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Dennis Robertson, has condemned the killing of a Red Kite in Deeside.

The bird was found dead in Aboyne this week.

Police Scotland have launched an investigation after a post mortem examination showed that the bird had been killed illegally.

This incident follows the killing of a Golden Eagle, also find near Aboyne, in September last year.

The female Red Kite had raised three chicks close to where it was found dead and these will now be looked after by RSPB Scotland.

Mr Robertson has written to Police Scotland and the Scottish Government to ask what joint work can be done to tackle these heinous wildlife killings.

He has also submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament to gain cross party support on the issue.

The MSP said:“Killing Scotland’s precious wildlife is a horrible act and a vicious crime. I support the Police Scotland investigation and urge any local residents who may have any information to come forward.

“For this incident to follow on from last year’s Golden Eagle killing, I am sure that the people of Aboyne and Aberdeenshire West will join me in condemning these attacks, and will join together as a community...”
