Mum on run for hospital

Finzean Mother Jane Bennett is running the Edinburgh Half Marathon this Sunday (May 22) to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

Jane’s son, Ross, now four, was born with a congenital heart problem and had to be rushed to Yorkhill Hospital when he was only a few hours old.

Ross had a life saving operation at one day old and stayed in hospital for nearly three weeks.

His heart is now fine and he has regular hospital checks to monitor him..

During the time when Ross was in hospital, Jane and her husband Alan were fortunate enough to be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House next to the unit.

The house at Yorkhill provides accommodation for thirty two families.

Families stay free of charge and there is no time limit on the accommodation – once a family is allocated a room it is theirs until their child is discharged from hospital.

The aim is to provide a warm and welcome environment where parents are able to have some “normality” during a worrying time.
