Banchory and Mid Deeside Councillor Jill Webster has welcomed the introduction of a new bus service between Banchory and Westhill.
The new Stagecoach 200 service will commence in mid-March with two morning services from Banchory to Westhill and two return afternoon services. The services also call at Woodend Hospital and Union Square in Aberdeen.
Councillor Webster said: “With the huge expansion of businesses in Westhill and its convenience for Banchory, I have been keen to see a commuter bus service introduced as previously there was no direct alternative other than the car.
“In order for commuters to see the bus as an attractive alternative, it is important that the bus goes to where people want to go as directly as possible. I have been lobbying for this for some time, as has Banchory Energy Reduction Initiative (BERI), and I am delighted Stagecoach has responded and been able to introduce this service.
“Although the service is limited at present, Stagecoach has advised me that if the service is popular the frequency can be reviewed.
“This comes on top of several initiatives recently introduced aimed at making the bus a more attractive option. The new Megarider multi-journey tickets are a much cheaper ticket option than previously available and I have been advised by Stagecoach that there is now an increase in passenger numbers as a result. “Likewise, the introduction of WiFi on the Deeside route is very welcome and is yet another incentive to encourage us out of our cars.”
