Alan Wood has been appointed as Aberdeenshire Council’s head of finance and will be responsible for the authority’s finances including revenues, benefits, the council’s budget, payments, treasury and council tax collection.
His career started with Grampian Regional Council as a trainee accountant then onto the role of accountant when Aberdeenshire Council was formed in 1996.
He has most recently served as acting head of finance and now takes up the role permanently.
As head of finance, Alan is now responsible for overseeing a budget of £548million and will lead, manage and develop the corporate finance and accountancy teams as well as the payments, revenues and benefits functions.
Appointments Committee Chair and Leader of the Council Councillor Anne Robertson said: “I am extremely pleased to welcome Alan Wood to this senior position. He has done an excellent job in an ‘interim’ capacity and I’m delighted that Alan has secured this position on a permanent basis. I know that the council’s finances will be in good hands under his leadership.
“The public purse has been stretched dramatically in recent times and public sector finances have been under a great deal of scrutiny.
Alan added: “Aberdeenshire Council is well placed for dealing with any challenges and I hope to influence and shape the authority so it can continue to meet these and ensure that we have a strong and firm financial service.”
