six teams from four districts within the SAYFC North Region took part in the recent North Agri Skills competition at Dingwall Auction Mart.

the teams carried out a number of activities including, construction of a sheep trough, roping a load, changing plough metal, identification ofcrop diseases, stringing a baler and a health and safety questionnaire.

Teams from Bower, Nairn, Inverurie, Mid Deeside and two from Udny competed on the day in six activities with the Udny A JAC (East Aberdeenshire District) team of Adam Middler, Tom Bruce and Jamie White taking top honours on the day with 135 points.

The team in second place were also from Udny JAC (East Aberdeenshire District), with members, Harry Middler, Garry Bruce and Martin Gray with 130 points and in third place were James Gunn, Scott Webster and Gavin Henry from Bower YFC (Caithness District) with 127 points. The first placed individuals in each section were as follows: Construction of A Sheep Trough – Adam Middler and Jamie White Udny JAC (A); Roping a Load – Gavin Henry Bower YFC; Identification of Crop Diseases – Gary Bruce – Udny JAC (B); Stringing A Baler – James Gunn Udny JAC (A);Changing Plough Metal – Martin Gray Udny JAC (B;) Health and Safety Quiz – Bower Team. The top three teams will now go on to represent the North Region in the Associations National Agri Skills Competition to be held at Ingliston, Edinburgh during the competitions weekend at the end of November.
