Ballogie Nursery hosted a green party to celebrate its achievement in gaining the Eco Schools Green Flag award.

Past and present parents, local councillors and members of the community were invited to join the celebration and were treated to some entertainment, an eco treasure hunt and a green-themed snack.

Over the past two years the nursery team, children (Young Buds) and parents have carried out environmental reviews, drawn up action plans and have transformed a very dull garden into an inspiring outdoor learning environment.

The nursery children have learned how to grow fruit and vegetables for their snack, participated in litter picks and raised money through toy sales and recycling phones and ink cartridges.

A spokeswoman for the nursery team said: “The parents (past and present) have been amazing with their tremendous support and the children’s enthusiasm for learning has been inspiring.

“Ballogie Nursery is the first Aberdeenshire nursery to achieve the Green Flag award in their own rights. We are extremely proud of our achievement.”
