On Saturday, June 2, Perkhill Holiday Cottages at Lumphanan will hold an open house, with everyone welcome from noon until 5pm at Macbeth’s Retreat, one of their new holiday properties.
When they first came to the area, Alex and Pippa Davie were fascinated to learn about Macbeth’s connections with Lumphanan. However, they were also surprised that all the interest in Royal Deeside focused on Queen Victoria and the present day Royal Family, with little to celebrate the ancient royal connection.
So when they decided to restore and extend properties on their farm to provide holiday accommodation, they chose appropriate names from that ancient time: Macbeth’s Retreat, King Duncan’s View and Lady Macbeth’s Rest.
Pippa said: “When we decided to celebrate our holiday cottages being ready and our four-star award from VisitScotland, it seemed appropriate to do so on diamond jubilee weekend and also to highlight Lumphanan as the place where Macbeth was slain by his adversary, Malcolm III. Everyone knows Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and while it’s a good story, the real events happened right here in 1057 and are commemorated by Macbeth’s Cairn, Macbeth’s Stone and Macbeth’s Well, all very close to Perkhill.”
The same day, Perkhill, a working farm with a herd of pedigree Aberdeen Angus, will host the Aberdeen Angus Youth Development Day.
