Members of Banchory Heritage Society were treated to an outstanding evening hosted by Professor and Mrs Gordon Walkden at their meeting last week.
There was a beautifully-illustrated powerpoint presentation and ample opportunity for members to look at some of the fossils and geological specimens which the Walkdens have collected over many years.
The evening covered a wide ranging time-span from several hundred million years ago to very recent history and the subject matter was not confined to just fossils, but took in pottery, art, portraiture and furniture as well as the Walkdens’ current interest in Devon marbles. The members thanked Professor and Mrs Walkden and agreed it had been a most enjoyable and informative evening.
February’s meeting will be on Monday, February 27, at St Ternan’s Episcopal Church hall. Doors will open at 7.30pm and the meeting will begin at 7.45pm. Members will welcome Dr Joyce Walker, honorary teaching fellow at Aberdeen University, a local historian and author, whose research into wartime history unearthed little-known information about wartime in the North-east of Scotland.
Membership of Banchory Heritage Society is £5 or £3 for juniors/concessions. Visitors are welcome and pay £1 donation towards refreshments. For information, contact: BanchoryHeritage@aol.coom or call 01330) 822105.
