Ballogie Estate has lodged plans for the redevelopment of the existing Potarch Hotel, which is currently closed for refurbishment.
The former Potarch Hotel hosted six bedrooms. The plans hope to transform the property into a 40-bedroom hotel including a spa, conference and events facility along with a welcoming restaurant on Royal Deeside.
More than £7 million will be invested in building a new spa, events venue and extensive accommodation. The work will include completely renovating the former Potarch Hotel.
Subject to planning and building warrant, work will start on the new Ballogie Hotel & Spa next year, with a projected opening date of summer 2016.
The character of the existing buildings on the site has been considered prior to the submission of the planning application on Thursday, June 26.
In terms of context setting, Ballogie Estate intends to use existing features to create spaces and control thresholds, and to ensure the visitor is aware of the rich mix of landscape settings and features.
The pub is set to remain in its current location, with plans to rebuild the existing steading. The new addition of a spa would be located on the existing dyke that runs from road to river.
Lewis Gray, Property Manager at Ballogie Estate Enterprises said: “This is such an exciting project for the Estate, we have spent quite some time working on the proposals to ensure that we create a destination hotel that will complement the existing building and the beautiful natural surroundings. We believe that the new hotel will be a great asset to Deeside to be enjoyed by visitors from the UK and internationally along with local residents.”
