North-east MSP Mike Rumbles and Westhill and District Councillor Iris Walker are asking residents of the ward to submit their views to the Boundary Commission consultation to prevent it becoming part of a new UK constituency for Angus.

The Conservative Party are calling for Banchory to be included in the Boundary Commissions new UK constituency for Gordon and Deeside.

Mr Rumbles said: “In a submission to the consultation from Tory peer Lord McInnes of Kilwinning it has become clear that they want to see Westhill moved out of the constituency and into the new Angus and Kincardineshire constituency to even up the numbers.

“The Conservative Party have organised a letter writing campaign and what they’re asking for is ludicrous.

“It would mean displacing Westhill and merging it on to the northern edge of the new Angus constituency.

“The current boundary proposals are perfectly reasonable.”

Local Councillor Iris Walker added: “It is really important that the people of Westhill have their say.

“The consultation is only open until March 27 so there is no time to spare.

“Everyone should be able to access their own MP.

“In rural areas like Aberdeenshire that can often be problematic but if Westhill is moved into the Angus constituency we will lose our political ties to the rest of the Shire and contacting our local MP will become even more difficult.

“I urge everyone in the Westhill and District ward to take a moment over the next two weeks to contact the Boundary Commission and make their views known. ”
