Dennis Robertson MSP has said he supports the majority backing 16 and 17 year olds being given the vote in future elections.

Following last month’s referendum, for which the voting age was lowered to 16, the SNP has welcomed news that the majority of people would back 16 and 17 year olds having the vote in future elections.

A Panelbase poll commissioned by the SNP and carried out between September 29 and October 1 found that 55% of people agreed that young adults should be given the vote in all future elections in Scotland and the UK. The survey found that 37% of participants did not believe they should retain the right to vote.

Dennis Robertson said: ““It is very encouraging indeed to see majority support for 16 and 17 year olds to be able to vote in all future elections.”
