Rhynie Gala a ‘great success’

This year’s Rhynie Gala was another great success, say organisers, starting on the Thursday evening with the Twa Fat Laddies giving a cooking demonstration with their own inimitable wit.

There was also a food fair which was well attended and then on Friday, football, tug o’ war, BBQ and disco was enjoyed by all.

The weather shone on Rhynie on Saturday which saw a large turnout of people and the dance in the evening rounded off a great weekend.

The Gala committee said they were grateful to all who helped, gave donations, raffles and to those who turned out in such numbers.

The Tap O’Noth hill race for men was won by Chris Tomlin in 39min 41 sec; Veronique Oldham was first home for the ladies in 43.51.

Sculpture winner was Dawn Riley; Basketball challenge, Primary st - Marcus Cheyne and Secondary 1s - Connor McWilliam.

Max Wallace won the Guess How Many Sweets competition and Pirate Chest winner was Ben Muiry.

In the baking section, Marianne Sheed and Irene Walker shared the Beverly Trophy; Vegetable competition winner was Tom English who collected both trophy and Bill and Olive Herd Shield; Adeline Taylor Roses Trophy in the Flower Competition was won by Robbie English; Brian’s Bhoys won the 5-a-side competition and Cornhill B the tug o’ war.
