A cooking demonstration, barbecue and tug o’war are amongst the attractions at this year’s Rhynie Gala.
Kicking off with the gala food fayre on Thursday, August 16, there will be a cookery demonstration in the marquee tent featuring the Two Fat Laddies. Doors open at 7.30pm and there will be local food stalls and a raffle on the night (donations gratefully received). Tickets cost £7.50 and are available from Averil on (01464) 861636. They are also available from the Corner Shop, Rhynie; Gordon Arms Hotel, Rhynie; Strathbogie Baker, Huntly; and Rizzas, Huntly.
From 6pm on Friday, August 17, there will be a five-a-side football – open teams only (entries to Martin Dow by August 12 on (01464) 861512 after 6pm) and there will tug o’war and a barbecue. The licensed marquee disco will be with Olly’s Night Fever Disco, from 9pm to 1am, admission £10.
Gala day (Saturday, August 18) will see free admission. The event will be opened at 1.15pm by John and Isobel Mackie, of Rhynie. Attractions will include the Tap O’Noth Hill Race at 2pm (entries to Simon Beeson on (01464) 861387 by 1.30pm), the Gordon Highlanders Pipe Band, an It’s a Knockout Competition comprising local teams, Jessiman School of Dancers, Sweet Adelines Choir, the Dezibel Drummers, a wood scupltor, bouncy castle, stalls, a barbecue, Punch and Judy and teas and refreshments. Various competitions will be held in the marquee. The licensed marquee dance will be with Backbeat from 9.30pm to 12.30am - admission is £8.
Gala competitions include flowers, vegetables, baking, children’s baking, a photo competition and children’s competition. Entries to the marquee should be made from 10am to 11.15am on the morning of the gala. For further details, call secretary Anne Lyne on (01464) 861203.
