Popular journalist and television presenter, Esther Rantzen was presented with a windfall cheque for £1600 for the charity Childline by Ryan Bond, president of the Rotary Club of Banchory-Ternan on Monday 12th March at the Childline premises in Aberdeen.

The presentation was attended by a number of Banchory Rotarians whose efforts helped raise the funds and also Mr George Berstan the Past District Governor of Rotary District 1010, North Scotland and also a Childline supporter.

The money was half of over £3000 raised at a recent Art auction held in Banchory. The event, was also the brainchild of Ryan, had a twist in that the signatures on each piece were obscured until after the auction, hence the event name ARTanon. The sale was conducted by Banchory Rotary Club members George Sinclair assisted by Ian Hendry. President Ryan thanked local artists for the 77 original works of art which were generously donated by artists mainly local to the north-east of Scotland and the buyers for their great support.

Following the cheque presentation, Ms Rantzen spoke about the important work carried out by Childline, she said: “For many children, for a variety of reasons, we are the only people left that they feel they can talk to.”
