S1s get a taste of business and market forces

S1 pupils recently participated in an enterprise event which was organised and delivered by representatives from BP.

During the half-day activity, teams of pupils had to form a company which buys and sells candy bags.

This fun event created a lot of enthusiasm and provided pupils with an insight into business and market forces.


Following the resounding success of the Interhouse pet photograph competition which attracted a large amount of entries from both pupils and staff, a whole school poetry competition has been launched.

Pupils (and staff in a parallel competition) are invited to submit a poem on the theme of friendship by Friday, March 23.

The poem may be written in the entrant’s native language or language spoken at home or in a language studied in school.


Earlier in the school year, we reported that S5 pupil, Nicholas Alderton, had achieved success in a national photographic competition.

Nicholas recently received a framed copy of his entry and certificate of commendation. The Focus Environment Photographic Exhibition, including Nicholas’ entry, is now on tour at various locations around Scotland and may be viewed on the website http://www.focusenvironment.com/tour.asp.

Pigeon fancier

Congratulations go to S4 pupil, Callum Coutts, on his success in the recent British Homing World (BHW) Championships which were held in Blackpool.

Callum has been breeding and showing pigeons for a number of years and was delighted to become British champion in the ‘Young Fancier’ category.

Events Week

Planning for this year’s Events Week for S1-S3 pupils is well underway. During the week of 28 May, residential trips to New York, London and Malta/Gozo will take place.

Seven pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a Junior Ranger project with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and gain the John Muir Discovery Award.

A number of S3 pupils will complete a work experience placement during the week while others will have the opportunity to take part in a range of school-based and adventurous activities.

Recipe success

Mary Bruce and her team in the canteen recently achieved third place in a healthier option recipe competition.

Their entry, beetroot and chocolate muffins, was highly commended.
