Aberdeen Arts Centre is on the search for a host of colourful characters to populate the stage at the King Street venue for this year’s panto.
This popular family event has gone from strength to strength over the last few years since Castlegate Arts took over.
Paula Gibson, executive manager said:” We are looking for nine enthusiastic and talented performers to tread the boards this Christmas season. The cast includes the usual mix of good and evil, pretty and the not so pretty and some of our characters will be quite new to our audiences. Some surprise appearances can be expected too from characters from other favourite pantos and nursery rhymes.
“We have 10 school and 13 evening and matinee performances planned and the run starts on Wednesday, December 5. “
“This is not for the faint-hearted,” she added, “as we do a whole fortnight of daily and evening rehearsals in the lead up to the first show along the lines of any professional theatre company. Our aspiring thesps need to be able to act, sing and dance a bit – but the acting and singing are fairly crucial.”
Characters up for grabs are: Little Red- feisty; Aurora (queen of the fairies); Dame Kitty Cup Cake (the dame,saucy,warm-hearted and a terrible flirt); The Wolf (cunning and devious); Shaggy the dog (cute and cuddly);Spite (the worst of Baddies); Jack (apprentice woodcutter, a jolly lad/laddess); Manyman (a wood sprite).
