A signed Manchester Utd football from Old Trafford is the latest item to be donated to the Summer Marquee Ball’s auction.
It will feature in the fine auction at this year’s ball on Saturday, August 25, at Raemoir House Hotel.
This year’s beneficiary will be Gastrocan - the only charity raising money specifically for research into stomach and oesophageal cancer.
All funds donated to Gastrocan are used to support local research efforts in NHS Grampian and the University of Aberdeen into this devastating disease, allowing local patients to benefit from the latest new treatments and enable the University of Aberdeen to lead national and international research projects.
By supporting research, Gastrocan aims to improve treatments and at the same time, raise awareness of the disease to enable earlier diagnosis.
It was established by Dr Russell Petty, consultant medical oncologist at NHS Grampian and a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Aberdeen.
Banchory-based fundraising co-ordinator for Gastrocan, Laura Tulloch, said: “The charity was delighted to be chosen as this year’s Summer Marquee Ball beneficiary and the Gastrocan team are looking forward to working alongside the ball committee to make it a successful event.”
Held in aid of charity, the event last year broke through a fundraising landmark by raising over £250,000 for local charities since it began back in 1998. Over the years, the ball has supported many charities including The Archie Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children 1st, Clic Sargent, Alzheimer Scotland, Friends of Glen O’Dee, Aberdeen Special Nursery and The Scolty Centre and last year was one of the most successful events, raising £28,500 for Homestart Deeside.
Organiser Logan Sangster said: “The Summer Marquee Ball has received some generous sponsorship from local companies and this year’s band, Red Square, has been sponsored by Talisman Energy and a week’s holiday for two in Tenerife was kindly sponsored by Rubberatkins.”
Raffle tickets are now on sale for the holiday and other prizes. Anyone wishing to donate to Gastrocan through the Summer Marquee Ball can contact Logan, on (01330) 824300.
