Significant daytime detours planned on A994

Donside motorists could face a detour of up to 37 miles as resurfacing work on the busy A944 Aberdeen to Alford road at Tillyfourie is carried out for two weeks.

Northbound traffic will face being re-routed 37 miles onto the A96 at Port Elphinstone, while south bound users face a 25 mile detour via Tornaveen.

Regional transport body Nestrans is funding £121,000 of work to improve the road at Tillyfourie, which will be carried out by Aberdeenshire Council’s roads team, and is expected to last for two weeks.

The road will be closed between 9am and 5.30pm daily between the junction with the B993 at Tillyfourie and the junction of C43M at Whiteley, Tough, beginning on Monday, August 12.

Site notices will be put in place indicating alternative routes, north and south. The northern diversion is 37 miles, while the southern route is 25 miles.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Roads and Landscape Services, Philip McKay, said: “We always have to thank motorists for their patience throughout the summer when we’re carrying out essential roadworks and for their understanding when any roads have to be closed. “The necessary detours are significant while this section of the A944...We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate travellers’ cooperation.”
