Simpson tops 10k

ORGANISERS of the Lumphanan Detox 10 which was run on Sunday were delighted with the turn out on the day.

Following the cancellation of countless outdoor sporting events in recent weeks because of severe winter weather – including the Banchory fun run on Boxing Day – the Lumphanan 10k attracted a field of 249 runners.

Banchory’s Robbie Simpson clocked up a personal best of 32min and 27sec to win the race for the second year in a row.

Top in the Women’s section was Veronique Oldham in a time of 40.28.

Second in the men’s under 21 section was Deeside Runners’ Sam Burgess in a time of 35.38. First in the 21- 40 age group was Matthew Sullivan ( 35.59); 2 Neil Jaffrey ( 35.30). In the 41-50 age group, 1st was Donald Kerridge ( 37.58), 2 Chris Tomlin ( 38.15). In the 51-60, 1st Philip Cowie ( 39.30), 2 Joe Battle ( 41.58). In the 60+ group, 1st was Mike Greaves ( 42.28), 2 Ashley Jermieson (42.43).

In the women’s under 21 section, first was Rhona Auckland ( 41.59), 2 Fiona Askew ( 44.32). In the 21-40 section, 1 Laura Sarkis ( 44.57) , 2 Jane Douglas ( 46.23); in the 41-50, 1 was Veronique Oldham, 2 Ruth Mackenzie ( 42.54). In the 51-60, 1 Carolyn Milne ( 43.07), 2 Jane Kerridge ( 46.05). In the 60+ 1 Lorna Souden ( 57.41), 2 Moira Hutchison ( 59.37).
