In memory of long-serving member Keith White, the Banchory Lions and Banchory Community Council got together to create an award for people with special needs.

The first recipient of the Keith White Award was Michael Coutts.

Mr Coutts has many connections in the community and works two days a week at the Burnett Arms Hotel in the kitchen. During the summer Michael works at Crathes Castle where he assists the gardening team one day a week.

He is also a valuable member of the recycling team based at Aboyne, where they collect and sort items for the Waste Management Department.

Mr Coutts has learned to travel independently so that he can go to all the various locations. He was described at the ceremony as a generous, sensitive and caring person who has a good sense of humour and is always willing to lend a helping hand.

Craig White, Keith White’s son, presented the award to Mr Coutts.

The award will be presented yearly to a member of the community, within the boundaries of Banchory, with special needs.

If you know someone who would qualify get in touch with Banchory Community Council and a nomination form will be sent to you.

The next presentation will take place in November.
