Friends of Ballater man Chris Hutchon took on the 10k RunBalmoral challenge last weekend to raise money for a fund set up in his memory.

The Chris Hutchon Memorial Fund was set up following his death earlier this year and has, so far, raised thousands of pounds to improve emergency healthcare in the Ballater area.

David Stewart, Pete Grant, Gordon Fernie, Bridget MacAlister, Joanna Wrate, Kev Davidson and Chris’ wife Kirstine Hutchon donned their running shoes on Saturday, April 25, and completed the annual challenge in full parrot costumes.

David Stewart, Chris’ friend and former colleague was involved in setting up the Memorial Fund. He said: “During one memorable fancy dress party he was the parrot to my pirate.”

This inspired the group to dress up as the colourful creatures for the Balmoral challenge.

Mr Stewart continued: “It was a great day in Balmoral and everyone was really pleased to complete their run. A BBQ was held at Bridge of Gairn farm on the Sunday to celebrate raising so much money for charity.

He was the parrot to my pirate.

“In total, the Chris Hutchon Memorial Fund is currently sitting at £14,000 and we’ve started the process of obtaining planning permission for siting two PADs (Public Access Defibrillators) in Ballater and one PAD in Crathie.”
