The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of snow and ice across Grampian.

Sleet, snow and hail showers will continue to affect much of the area through Tuesday evening, overnight and into Wednesday morning.

Some 3-8 cm of snow is likely to accumulate on high ground above 200 m, with 1-5 cm possible on lower ground. However accumulations will vary widely, with some places within the warning area seeing little or no snow, especially at lower levels. Ice may also develop on untreated surfaces, or where repeated showers dilute treatment.

Icy stretches and snow may lead to some difficult travelling conditions and some low level disruption, especially over the higher routes.

The cold, showery northwesterly airstream will persist bringing further wintry showers. During the day any accumulations on the roads will be slight and temporary but will settle more readily from Tuesday evening as road temperatures fall.

In addition, where surfaces have been left wet by showers, icy stretches will form, this risk continuing into the first part of Wednesday morning.
