With the All-Energy 2012 Conference taking place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference this week, Dennis Robertson MSP for Aberdeenshire West has hailed Westhill as a global Centre of Excellence in Subsea Engineering - taking its oil and gas expertise across to the renewable energy sector.

Dennis Robertson said: “Scotland can, in collaboration with the energy sector, achieve the status of energy powerhouse of Europe and we, in Aberdeenshire West, are at the heart of the Scottish Government’s energy strategy.

“Westhill concentration of Subsea Engineering expertise is second to none and is critical to the success of Scotland’s renewable revolution.

“While the UK Government is looking at building more nuclear power stations, the Scottish Government has a clear vision for the energy future of the nation adding wave and tidal energy to offshore wind power assuring that Scotland will rule the waves in renewable energy.”

The MSP has been working with the local academy to promote a programme of study to help students develop the skills they require to consider a career in the energy industry.

The ‘Your Future Your Energy’ course is designed to help develop and deliver the transferable skills needed for young people to enter the energy sector.

Mr Robertson added: “The All-Energy 2012 conference this week is a perfect opportunity for the world of education to meet the energy sector and to participate to the networking needed for this rapidly evolving and increasingly important sector to bring jobs and more successes to the North East of Scotland.”
