Three women are recovering today after a rescue drama on the River Dee.

Their dinghy overturned as they sailed between Drumoak and Culter on Thursday afternoon.

Two of the women were rescued from a river island while the third is understood to have managed to swim to the bank.

Rescuers used the dinghy to lead the stranded pair to safety.

The women were wrapped in blankets and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

Coastguard teams, paramedics and an air ambulance attended the scene, but the helicopter was stood down.
