Over 80 women came together in Banchory and raised over £500 while celebrating women’s inspiring contributions to health in their local communities.
International Women’s Day is a major day of global celebration of women. All around the world the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.
This year the event in Deeside (March 8) brought women together to meet, share and explore alternative health methods, make new friends and celebrate the positive contributions they make to the North-east as women.
As part of the event women were asked to make donations from their businesses, either products or services, to raffle which raised £385 that was generously made up to over £500 by Val and Callum Buchanan owners of Buchanans Bistro.
Val Buchanan, co-owner of Buchanans Bistro, said: “This year when planning the event we wanted to make a real difference to women’s lives not just here in the North-east of Scotland but across the world. The money we have raised will be invested through a non-profit organization Kiva.org who will help us choose woman entrepreneurs to support.
We hope that through future International Woman’s Day Events we can develop a positive connection with woman entrepreneurs across the world.’
Local entrepreneur Jacqui Christie of Organica J said: “The event was fantastic, so many talented women gave their time and energies to support us. We have to thank so many people for there generous support and donations.”
Initiator and artist Marie Shaw says: “I’m inspired by the talent and the generosity we have had for this event, there is an overwhelming desire to make this an annual event, so women of the North-east put the 8th March 2013 into your calendars because we have amazing things planned for next year.”
