Banchory 2nd XI 108 : Ellon 2nd XI 109 for 4

HAVING been saved a long trip to Turriff last Saturday when the Grade 3 league match was called off due to heavy rain, Banchory looked forward to the home cup game against Ellon, the team that beat them last season in the same fixture.
Unfortunately for Banchory, the result was the same and it was an early exit for the Deeside team.

Invited to bat first Banchory started well with openers James Stirling and stand-in skipper Ken Campbell putting on 31 before Campbell was LBW for 1
2.

Stirling followed shortly after being caught for 13 and it was batsmen number 3, Tom Taggart, who held the rest of the innings together with a fine 40.

No one could stay with him for long and a poor display of batting saw the next highest score being 9 and the innings close on 108.

In a 40 over game only 31 overs were used and in cup competitions this was not good enough.

A quick wicket was called for when Ellon went out to bat.

This was delivered by Mike Perry who continued to bowl tightly during his allotted 10 overs, finishing with a fine 1 for 21.

Three further wickets fell all to Callum Wilson whose excellent 3 for 24 could not stop Ellon progressing to victory.

Three Ellon batsmen reached double figures including Aman who remained unbeaten on 50 at the finish.

However, all these batsmen were dropped before they had made many runs and as, the old adage says, catches win matches.

Despite this, the spirit of the side remained high throughout the game.

In what has been a great season so far for the 2nd XI, the team will want to return to winning ways and will be looking for a better display in their home game against Grammar this Saturday.
