Banchory 2nd XI 156 for 6 : Grammar 120 all out

BANCHORY 2nd XI remain in a promotion position following a victory against bottom club Grammar in this Grade 3 fixture last Saturday at the Burnett Park.
After two defeats on the trot it was a welcome win, however, it was marred by a hamstring injury to skipper Ian Pennington , which is likely to keep him on the sidelines for a couple of weeks.

Losing the toss Banchory took first knock on what was
a good batting track although the ball kept low on a number of occasions. Ken Campbell opened with Richard Perry with a partnership of 30 before Perry was LBW for 19.

Tom Taggart was the replacement and after an exquisite 4 of his first ball moved rapidly to 14 before he was caught.

Enter Ian Pennington, who after scoring 9, injured his hamstring which kept him out of the rest of the game and probably the next few weeks.

It will be a bad loss for the team losing its inspirational captain. Josh Crawley replaced the stricken skipper and hit a useful 13 before being caught. Campbell was the next to go being bowled for what was a patient 52.

Chasing quick runs at the end there were useful contributions from Sean Hicks (12), Callum Wilson (4), David McCrae (3 not out) and Mike Perry (7 not out).

The Banchory innings closed on 156 for 6 after 46 overs.

Banchory took to the field with Zac Crawley substituting for Pennington.

The Banchory bowlers kept the opposition batsmen under pressure throughout their innings, with the opening pair of Richard Perry and Mark Herbert taking 4 wickets between them after 12 overs.

Bowling changes kept the batsmen on their toes and there were excellent contributions from Sean Hicks (1 for 13), Mike Perry (1 for 16) and Callum Wilson (1 for 9).

Only Karthik (32) and T Murray (16) showed any real resistance. R Perry finished with 2 for 34 but the pick of the bowlers had to be Mark Herbert whose 5 for 30 proved decisive.

The opposition batsmen had no real answer to Herbert's pace and once he gets his line right will be even more of a handful.

This Saturday the side travel to Dunecht, which is the start of the second part of the season.
